Lottery picks Ayo Dosunmu is showing up for the Chicago Bulls this season: Jalen Green
At the outset of the regular season, one of the most promising rookies in this 2021 draft class was the former G-League Ignite sensational combo guard Jalen Green. But an injury to Green in late November really halted any momentum he found out of the gates this season.
He would essentially go on to miss the entire month of December. But there’s obviously still a ton of hope for what Green can eventually turn into.
As the second overall pick of the Houston Rockets in the 2021 NBA Draft Lottery, Green came into a role with high expectations right away at the next level. Green was essentially called upon to be one of the two main initiators on the offensive end for the Rockets.
Given the fact that Green is one of the younger and streakier guards in this draft class, it looked like this was going to be a lot of pressure for the Rockets to put him on right away. And that pressure has often caused Green to get out of rhythm and have some real tough games shooting from the field.
The inconsistencies and recent injury issues for Green are major reasons for him making this list too.
That is evident in the fact that Green has a negative box plus/minus in nine games in a row for the Rockets. He’s also shooting just 39.1 percent from the field and 30.6 percent from beyond the arc so far this season.
You can just look at a comparison in shooting percentages between Dosunmu and Green to get the picture that Ayo is the more effective rookie guard this season. Dosunmu is shooting 55.4 percent from the field and 45.7 percent from beyond the arc thus far.
Dosunmu is also the more effective defender between these two guards. It’s really hard to give the edge to Green over Dosunmu when comparing the production of these two rookies so far this season.
