Some pretty abrupt news came via the Chicago Bulls late in the morning of Jan. 17. The Bulls officially waived the second-year point guard and former Kansas Jayhawks star Devon Dotson after his second season with the team. Dotson was in one of the two-way contract slots for the Bulls for the second season in a row.
There look to be two motivating factors behind the Bulls waiving Dotson during the holiday weekend. The first is the fact that the Bulls have a lot of young guard depth in their backcourt unit this season between guys like point guard Coby White, rookie point guard Ayo Dosunmu, and starting point guard Lonzo Ball.
That’s not to mention the fact that Javonte Green often plays minutes at the two or the three and point guard Alex Caruso is also a staple in the second unit.
Who the Chicago Bulls should’ve waived on Jan. 17 other than Devon Dotson?
Dotson just got caught in a situation where there’s a ton of depth ahead of him that the Bulls aren’t going to part ways with before him.
And the second motivating factor for the Bulls waiving Dotson looks to be keeping around a different recently signed player in his two-way contract slot. Subsequent to the news of Dotson getting waived on Jan. 17, the Bulls announced that the recently added wing Malcolm Hill would now be getting the two-way contract slot that was previously occupied by Dotson.
Yet, there still are some other players on this Bulls roster that I firmly believe could be waived before Dotson. Here’s a look into two Bulls players that ideally should be gone before Dotson.
