Free agents that would’ve made the Chicago Bulls worse than they are now: Evan Fournier

It never really felt like the Bulls were in a spot to sign the former Orlando Magic shooting guard/small forward Evan Fournier last offseason. Even when it looked like the Magic were very intent on trading Fournier, it didn’t feel like the Bulls were ever going to be in a position to try and make an offer to acquire him.

The Bulls did need to add more production in terms of scoring last season, but it didn’t make much sense to trade for Fournier. His contracts have consistently paid him more than $15 million in average annual value since his latter days with the Magic.

Fournier wound up signing with the New York Knicks last offseason. And it looks like he’s starting to find his groove of late with the Knicks which is good to see. But it still doesn’t look like he would ever be a good fit with the way this Bulls team is constructed.

There are more capable shot creators and overall playmakers on this Bulls team. And there are some much better two-way players that can take up minutes playing at the three or the four than Fournier would.

Given how the Bulls like to play some small-ball lineups often this season, it would be tough to find a slot for Fournier.

This is all to say that I never thought the Bulls were seriously considering trading for Fournier. But it is worth mentioning that he is the type of player that just doesn’t fit right with the Bulls. That’s not to say that Fournier isn’t a good player for a team like the Knicks. He’s finding his stride in the last few weeks with that squad.
