Potential early Chicago Bulls buyout market targets: Kevin Love

The first name that will jump out among potential buyout market candidates to Bulls fans will be the veteran five-time All-Star power forward Kevin Love. With the Cleveland Cavaliers looking similar to the Bulls in the sense that they are one of the most improved teams in the NBA this season, Love might be one of the more interesting cases in terms of buyout market discussions right now.

The availability of Love could really solely hinge on the spot that the Cavs are in the Eastern Conference standings as soon as next month. If the Cavs are fighting for a top-five or six seed in the Eastern Conference standings by early February, then I wouldn’t expect the Cavs to part ways with Love too easily.

Love is having a solid bounce-back campaign with the Cavs as he’s filling more of a mentor role now compared to years past. His per-game stats definitely took a dip in the last two seasons, but he’s playing some of his most efficient basketball in a long time through more than 30 games so far this season.

If Love does come available from the Cavs by the time the trade deadline arrives next month, it would be wise of the Bulls to at least consider adding him.

Love is definitely a name to watch as buyout time approaches this season. But there’s definitely no guarantee that the Cavs are going to part ways with him given how efficient he’s played so far this season and the spot they’re in right now. Sporting a record of 22-17, the Cavs are currently sitting in a top-six seed in the standings in the East.

A record like that next month could force the Cavs to keep Love. In many senses, the Bulls should be rooting for the Cavs to lose a lot in the weeks ahead.
