There is plenty of momentum working in favor of the Chicago Bulls so far this season. Especially of late, the bulls are rolling behind the efforts of the star duo of shooting guard Zach LaVine and shooting guard/forward DeMar DeRozan. LaVine and DeRozan are spearheading the Bulls’ longest winning streak of the season, which is currently sitting at eight games following their triumph over the Orlando Magic at home on Jan. 3.
That win over the Magic gave the Bulls their 25th win of the regular season, which put them further ahead of the Brooklyn Nets for the top spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
It is rare that you get a situation where there are two players on the same team that are both threats to get All-NBA First or Second-Team honors in the same season. And there are three or four players for the Bulls this season that could also challenge to get an All-Star nod this season.
LaVine and DeRozan are definitely at the forefront of the Bulls players that could be All-NBA Team selections this season. The way that these two are performing so far this season could also put both of them in a position to be dark horse MVP contenders.
That is especially true for DeRozan, who is coming up with some special plays in his first run with the Bulls.
Through 32 games played with the Bulls this season, DeRozan has averaged 26.9 points per game, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.3 blocks. And he’s shot 49.4 percent from the field, 36.2 percent from beyond the arc, and 85.8 percent from the free-throw line.
It’s insane that DeRozan is not only averaging around 27/5/5 this season, but he’s also close to being part of the 50/40/90 club. This is definitely something he’s never done before.

Moreover, LaVine is also on a pretty torrid pace for the Bulls this season. He’s averaged 26.3 points per game, 5.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.4 blocks. And LaVine shot 49.7 percent from the field, 42.0 percent from beyond the arc, and 85.7 percent from the free-throw line.
This stat line for LaVine so far this season is pretty close to the type of numbers LaVine registered when he got his first career All-Star nod last year.
What LaVine and DeRozan are doing this season would be historic for each individual player. But the fact that they’re both putting up these types of numbers this season as teammates is truly historic.
There are only eight players in NBA history that have averaged at least 26 points per game, five rebounds, and four assists while shooting at least 45 percent from the field, 35 percent from beyond the arc, and 85 percent from the free-throw line. Some of the names on that list include Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Larry Bird, and Kobe Bryant.
LaVine and DeRozan are both currently on pace to do that this season, though. And if that holds true, it would be the first time in NBA history that two teammates were able to accomplish such a feat.
This really puts the type of season that both LaVine and DeRozan are having for the Bulls so far into historical context. It also goes a long way to explaining why the Bulls are having so much success in the first 35 games of the regular season.
When you also factor in the play of other key Bulls players such as star center Nikola Vucevic, point guard Lonzo Ball, and point guard Alex Caruso (among others) you can really see why this team is having so much success. The front office built this roster out to immediately contend in the East, and that’s exactly what they’ve done so far this season.
