Chicago Bulls Christmas wish list for the 2022 free agent class: Robert Covington

Given the fact that the 2022 free agent class isn’t as fruitful in terms of its star power as 2021 was, the Bulls are going to have to dig deeper to find some upgrades to the roster. The good news here is that, if the Bulls can re-sign LaVine by the time next summer arrives, that they won’t need to upgrade the roster as much next offseason compared to last.

The Bulls will already have the star power in place with the likes of star shooting guard/forward DeMar DeRozan, LaVine, and center Nikola Vucevic. They will just need to work on continuing to build the roster up around these three.

A potential free agent target that I believe is worth watching for the Bulls is the versatile floor-spacing Portland Trail Blazers forward Robert Covington. There aren’t many players that had their roles shift as drastically while excelling in the process, as RoCo in the last few seasons between his time with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Houston Rockets, and the Trail Blazers.

It’s hard to find a world where RoCo wouldn’t fit well with Donovan and the Bulls given his versatility. He’s able to really play anywhere between the three and the five, and that’s something that could add some punch to Donovan’s rotation as a whole.

What could actually be beneficial to the Bulls in terms of their hypothetical pursuit of RoCo in free agency is that he’s having a down start to the season. RoCo will bounce back at some point, but this might allow the Bulls to buy-low on him next summer.
