Chicago Bulls players viewed as legit trade targets: Patrick Williams
A player that I definitely don’t believe is worth giving up on for the Bulls but could be the subject of some trade speculation this season is the second-year former Florida State Seminoles forward Patrick Williams. A reigning All-Rookie Second-Team selection, Williams should have a very bright future ahead on both ends of the floor.
He’s already showing off his versatility as a solid on-ball defender that can hang with the best of them and an efficient floor spacer that can be a knockdown shooter from beyond the arc.
A piece from NBC Sports Chicago earlier this month discussed the possibility of executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley shipping off Williams in just his second year in the league. That would clearly be a big risk for the Bulls to ship off such a promising part of the franchise’s future.
And you would have to consider part of the reason for this would be the trade-off in the Bulls being able to contend for a title right away with Williams at least set to miss the rest of the regular season due to injury. It’s not fair at all to blame Williams for this injury. It just might be bad timing in terms of the Bulls wanting to elevate their contender status as the season moves along.
The main reason I could think as to why the Bulls would even consider shipping off Williams this season is if there’s a chance for them to get a piece that makes an immediate impact in terms of moving the needle on potentially making a run to the NBA Finals. We’re talking about acquiring a piece the level of a Jerami Grant or Myles Turner I would think if the Bulls were to trade Williams.
