Bulls Rumors: Ranking the likelihood of 5 recent trade proposals
Rating the likelihood of Bulls rumors: Myles Turner
As far as names on the trade block go, very few shine quite as bright as Myles Turner‘s. The Indiana Pacers have recently suggested he’d be available for interested teams, as Shams Charania of The Athletic seemed to indicate.
As the rare shot-blocking big that can also shoot threes, Turner’s value on paper would be extremely high for a team that had a nice fit available for him. Turner is leading the league in blocks this season — the third time he’s achieved this landmark in the last four seasons — and is shooting 36.4 percent from beyond the arc on just shy of five attempts per game.
Interior defense is certainly one of the Bulls’ weakest aspects of their team composition right now, and Turner would immediately address that issue. His block rate currently stands at 8.4 percent, meaning that about one in every 12 two-point field goal attempts are blocked by Myles.
Blocks and steals are essential towards getting out in transition, where the Bulls excel most. Unfortunately, Turner still wouldn’t be an ideal fit in Chicago. He would be forced to play out of position at the power forward slot, which would have him guarding the perimeter far more often, therefore reducing his defensive impact in the post.
It would make more sense for Chicago to replace Vucevic with Turner outright, but it’s extremely unlikely that Indiana would be interested in the 31-year-old big man as they intend to enter a rebuilding phase. The Bulls would require a third team to get involved to make this trade and would jeopardize the team chemistry to make it happen.
