Windy City Bulls out of G-League Winter Showcase due to COVID-19
It seems like something that the entirety of the Chicago Bulls organization can’t get away from right now is an outbreak of COVID-19. For about the last week or so, it felt like the entire Bulls’ roster was getting entered into the league’s health and safety protocol due to COVID-19 cases.
That is the reason why second-year head coach Billy Donovan and the Bulls had their two games this week postponed. The Bulls were supposed to face the Detroit Pistons on Dec. 14 and the Toronto Raptors on Dec. 16. Instead, the Bulls will play their next game on Dec. 19 at home at the United Center against the Los Angeles Lakers.
But there’s not even G-League basketball for the Chicago faithful to watch at this moment. The Bulls’ G-League affiliate Windy City Bulls won’t even get to compete in the AT&T NBA G-League Winter Showcase this month. According to an official release from the G-League on Dec. 15, the Windy City Bulls will not participate in the Winter Showcase this month and they had their Dec. 17 meeting with the Grand Rapids Gold canceled.
Chicago Bulls G-League affiliate Windy City Bulls reportedly out of Winter Showcase
Grand Rapids is the G-League affiliate of the Denver Nuggets.
In fact, the Bulls G-League affiliate hasn’t played in a game since a Dec. 1 one-point win over the Wisconsin Herd. They’ve had three games they couldn’t play in since that time due to the COVID-19 protocols.
Next up for Windy City will be a meeting with the Charlotte Hornets G-League affiliate Greensboro Swarm. That is one of two games remaining for Windy City at this point of the regular season schedule before the turn of the calendar year.
The Chicago Bulls are set to carry a record of 17-10 into their Dec. 19 meeting with the Lakers, who are dealing with some health and safety protocol issues of their own. That will be the first of back-to-back games for the Bulls on Dec. 19 and 20, with the second leg coming at home against the Houston Rockets.
