Scorers the Chicago Bulls can target in a trade: Terrence Ross

Any potential veteran trade target that Karnisovas and the Bulls could consider this season a few months ahead of the deadline should be one that doesn’t cost the team too much in terms of valuable long-term player/draft assets. And that’s why it makes sense for the Bulls’ front office to go after a struggling veteran out of the gates this season like the Magic’s 30-year-old shooting guard/small forward Terrence Ross.

As someone who is usually known to be one of the streakier shooters and scorers around the NBA landscape in terms of predominant reserve players, a cold stretch is nothing new for Ross. In fact, Ross is traditionally a slow starter throughout his NBA career. Of any month for his career, he has by far his worst offensive rating in October. The next worst is November.

If the Bulls were to make a move soon to get Ross from the Magic hypothetically, they could get a tremendous amount of value down the line this season. So far this season, Ross is averaging around 10 points per game, two rebounds, two assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks. And he’s shot around 39 percent from the field, 30 percent from beyond the arc, and 79 percent from the free-throw line.

All in all, Ross is definitely one of the most capable and proven reserve scorers in the East that the Bulls could go after without giving up too much on the trade market. In the prior three seasons, Ross is someone that averaged around 15 points per game while shooting 42 percent from the field and 37 percent from beyond the arc. That is closer to the type of production that the Bulls could expect if they traded for him in the not-too-distant future.

It helps that Ross only has one more year remaining on a frontloaded contract following the end of this season. That wouldn’t be too much of a commitment for the Bulls, as they could probably just give up two of their more tradeable contracts for a return of Ross from the Magic.
