Scorers the Chicago Bulls can target in a trade: Doug McDermott
One of the worst teams in the Western Conference standings out of the gates this season is the San Antonio Spurs in what could be the final year under the direction of legendary head coach Gregg Popovich. And if the Spurs continue to struggle in terms of finding success in the win column as the season moves along, there could be some key pieces that hit the trade block soon.
A name to watch in this regard from the Spurs is the former Bulls and Pacers sharpshooting wing, Doug McDermott. There are a lot of needs that the Bulls could fill on the bench if they were able to trade for a sharpshooting small forward like McDermott that is also switchable enough on both ends of the floor to play anywhere between the two and the four.
Switchability is clearly an important part to some of the more natural wings/forwards for Donovan and the Bulls this season. Just look at all of the different positions that Donovan had the likes of forward Derrick Jones Jr. and shooting guard/wing Javonte Green play so far this season.
If the Spurs do start to think that trading McDermott is the right move in this transition phase for their franchise, then the Bulls should be one of the first teams team to call them up. McDermott can help space the floor for a Bulls’ team that isn’t shooting too efficiently from deep this season. He’s also an active wing that moves well off-ball on offense.
Although, the main issue that the Bulls would face in trying to trade for McDermott is his current contract. After this season, McDermott still has two years remaining on his current contract that pays him an average annual value around $13.5 million.
A few potential trade chips that the Bulls could use to get a deal done with the Spurs to land McDermott are Coby, shooting guard/small forward Troy Brown Jr., and power forward Alize Johnson.
