Ice-cold players for the Chicago Bulls of late: Coby White*
There is an asterisk next to Coby White‘s name on this list due to the fact that he’s still working his way back into the lineup after making his debut with the Bulls last week. The Bulls’ third-year point guard and former North Carolina Tar Heels star did have himself a solid game off the bench in the big win over the New York Knicks in the front end of the latest back-to-back games at home on Nov. 21.
In the win over the Knicks last weekend, White registered a season-high 14 points off the bench, along with no rebounds, two assists, no steals, no blocks, and no turnovers. And he shot 5-of-11 from the field, 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, and 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.
This type of performance for White to help the Bulls get this key win over the Knicks is a good example of the role he can play for the Bulls as a reserve in the second or third unit. When the Bulls are seeing someone like shooting guard Zach LaVine, forward DeMar DeRozan, Vucevic, etc. going cold from the field, it might be time to let White go to work.
Statistically speaking, White has not played all that well for the Bulls, though, since returning from shoulder surgery that he had last offseason. Despite a solid night offensively for Coby against the Knicks, he’s still shooting just 25 percent from the field, 21 percent from beyond the arc, and 50 percent from the free-throw line.
Patience must win the day if White is ever going to contribute in a positive manner for the Bulls anytime this season. No one should be bashing him for shaking the rust off while putting up some up and down numbers in returning from a major procedure he had last spring.
