Chicago Bulls players who have exceeded preseason expectations: Ayo Dosunmu

Drafted No. 38 overall in last summer’s draft, Ayo Dosunmu was likely drafted by the Chicago Bulls with the intent to stash a high-floor prospect in the G League. With new backcourt additions Caruso and Lonzo Ball adding on to the existing guard rotation of Zach LaVine and Coby White, it was always going to be difficult carving out a substantial role on this team.

Dosumu was undeterred, however, and White’s recuperation process allowed Ayo just enough opportunity to make a big impression in a short amount of time. While his box score stats won’t jump off the page, he’s made a noticeable impact every time he’s stepped foot on the court this season.

Whether that means utilizing his 6-foot-5 frame to play stifling defense, getting out in transition with blazing speed, or hitting clutch shots late in the fourth quarter to seal the game, Dosunmu has had the Bulls covered.

Growing up in Chicago prepared Ayo for moments like these, and thus far he has proven he’s ready to rise to the challenge. Last year, the junior guard led the University of Illinois to their best season since 2005 and already looks poised to bring similar energy to the Bulls this year and beyond.
