Free agents that could immediately bolster the Chicago Bulls’ bench: Marc Gasol

Unlike Redick, it sounds like the former Raptors, Memphis Grizzlies, and Los Angeles Lakers star big man Marc Gasol is going to try to at least stick through one more season of professional basketball. Gasol definitely showed that he can still contribute in a meaningful way in a reserve role in his last two seasons with the Lakers.

The three-time All-Star, two-time All-NBA Team selection, and one-time Defensive Player of the Year is now signed to play one season professionally overseas in Spain. Gasol did announce he would return to his home country of Spain during the offseason. But that came when it looked like he wasn’t going to play any more professional hoops in any country.

Those intentions have now looked to have changed for the 2019 NBA Champion.

And given the fact that adding a veteran voice to the locker room, like Gasol could bring to the table in Chicago, it makes sense that the Bulls would try to bring someone like him into the mix at some point this season. If it’s not Gasol, then this type of idea should be one to keep in mind for the Bulls’ faithful.

If the Bulls look like a team that could legitimately provide an opportunity for Gasol to make a postseason run during the 2021-22 campaign, this could be a real consideration for him. He’s expressed intentions to keep playing professionally at 36 years of age, and if he returned to the NBA it feels like he would only really be willing to join a contender down the stretch.
