Chicago Bulls: 4 free agents that could bolster the bench immediately
Free agents that could immediately bolster the Chicago Bulls’ bench: J.J. Redick
Now, let me note the fact that J.J. Redick did announce his retirement a couple of months ago. After 15 seasons in the NBA, Redick announced his retirement back in September. But if there is any chance for a contender like the Bulls to talk Redick out of retirement, it would be worth the try at some point this season.
One area where the Bulls haven’t found all that much success out of the gates this season is in the three-point shooting department. While the Bulls do have multiple capable floor spacers, a lot of them are injured for the team at the moment. Namely, it hurt the Bulls that the team is now missing both Vucevic and second-year forward Patrick Williams in the frontcourt rotation.
This is where the idea of the Bulls going out to sign the veteran sharpshooting guard J.J. Redick sounds pretty good for the bench the rest of the way. Redick was one of the most appealing free agents that teams could go out and get on the open market late in the offseason.
But I personally believed that it would not take too long for some team to go out and sign Redick ahead of the start of this regular season. Yet, nothing of the sort has played out up to this point.
Redick looks to have some post-career endeavors in mind already, but he did show in the last couple of seasons that he still has something left in the tank. Given that the Bulls likely could really use a veteran voice like his in the locker room come postseason time, I would love this signing for the team at some point soon.
Signing someone like Redick would obviously be a reach for the Bulls given his current circumstances. But if there is any chance of this happening, it definitely would be worth considering for the Bulls’ front office.
