Trade targets to elevate the Chicago Bulls contender status: Myles Turner
If the Bulls could find a way to make a trade work with the divisional foe Indiana Pacers to snag the former Texas Longhorns star center Myles Turner away, that would be a difficult scenario to argue with. Granted, there could be a conflict that emerges between Vucevic and Turner in the frontcourt unit if this were to happen.
At the moment, it feels like the Pacers are still trying to figure out how to make the chemistry work with their top frontcourt unit of Turner and star big man Domantas Sabonis. That could eventually lead to the Pacers’ front office deciding to deal one of the two of them out.
The fit between Turner and the Bulls should be a seamless one. Turner has improved his shooting from distance in recent years. He’s actually shooting better than 43 percent from beyond the arc this season.
And he’s also able to put the ball on the floor at times and get to the basket when other options run out on offense.
Yet, the main value that Turner would obviously bring to the table for the Bulls is his defense in the paint and rim protection. Turner led the NBA in blocks per game in three of the last four seasons. You won’t find many better defenders around the rim among big men than Turner.
If the Bulls did go out and trade for Turner, it would likely take a lot. But if this team wanted an upgrade on the defensive end of the floor down low, Turner is about the best way to do so. He is also one of the better floor-spacing big men in the East this season. The major question mark would be where exactly he gets slotted into the rotation.
