Chicago Bulls’ new signings already blowing people away: DeMar DeRozan

An obvious way to cap off this list among the best new signings for the Bulls out of the gates this season is the former San Antonio Spurs and Toronto Raptors star shooting guard/forward DeMar DeRozan. The four-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA Team selection looks to be well on his way to a fifth All-Star nod this season.

DeRozan was the hottest Bulls player offensively out of the gates this season. He and star shooting guard Zach LaVine are proving to be quite the top scoring duo for the Bulls this season too.

Through just shy of a dozen games played this season, DeRozan is averaging 26 points per game, good for sixth in the NBA. A down scoring night by DeRozan’s usual considerations to start the regular season in the win over the Mavs on Nov. 10 did cool him down a bit.

But we should expect a strong response from the veteran DeRozan when the Bulls face superstar point guard Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors on the road on Nov. 12. DeRozan is just too consistent of an offensive force for the Bulls at the outset of the regular season.

Some of the advanced metrics DeRozan registered at the outset of this season prove what type of pace he is on. He’s sporting a 23.9 player efficiency (second-best of his career), a career-high .207 win shares per 48 minutes, and .578 true shooting percentage (third-best of his career).

It’s no surprise that DeRozan is making an immediate impact on the Bulls in terms of scoring and all-around offensive production. But the fact that he came out of the gates so hot for this team is an encouraging sign about how he fits with this core unit. His defensive game also isn’t as big of a net negative as many feared too.
