Former Chicago Bulls players the team should miss: Thaddeus Young
Maybe the costliest loss that the Bulls had during the offseason in terms of players that were dealt out was veteran forward Thaddeus Young. The Bulls shipped off Young to the San Antonio Spurs in the sign-and-trade deal that brought star shooting guard/forward DeMar DeRozan to Chicago.
While I’m not arguing in the slightest that it was the wrong move for the Bulls to dish out Young to get DeRozan from the Spurs, it is clear that the value he could bring to the table is enormous. With Williams absent now likely for the remainder of the regular season, having Young in the mix would provide an extreme amount of value to the frontcourt unit.
The Bulls have struggled at times on the boards, granted things are looking up in that regard of late. Young was one of the better rebounders and distributors for the Bulls last season.
There is also often a lack of off-ball movement for the Bulls in the second unit. Young was one of the most effective dribble hand-off and screen-and-roll forwards in the Eastern Conference last season. That would be a big help for the Bulls at times this season.
Young isn’t holding as prominent of a role with the Spurs this season that he did with the Bulls last year. He was definitely better utilized to maximize his skill set with Donovan and the Bulls last season compared to with the Spurs out of the gates this season.
