Underrated Chicago Bulls reserves who deserve more love: Javonte Green*

We start out the list with a Bulls player that has an asterisk next to his name for good reason. The former Celtics shooting guard Javonte Green started out the regular season coming off the bench for Donovan and the Bulls. But since the season-ending injury to second-year forward Patrick Williams took place last week, he’s moved to the starting unit.

Green now has two starts under his belt in seven games played, but he’s still mostly played in a reserve role this season. It’s hard to tell moving forward, though, if Donovan and his staff will want to keep Green in the starting unit. The Bulls might opt to find someone else to start in place of the injured Williams for the rest of the regular season.

Donovan has options as far as players on the current roster go. Or the Bulls could turn to free agency to find a solution for the rest of the regular season.

Nonetheless, Green played well regardless of getting the start or coming off the bench so far this season. He’s shot the ball well when called upon and remained one of the best on-ball and help defenders on this team. He’s registered a block percentage around three and a steal percentage just north of one.

That all came while Green registered an insane true shooting percentage at 77.5. Green is also one of the best hustle players and rebounders on this team. He’s starting to rake in some offensive rebounds to get the Bulls’ possessions back that most other players don’t this season.

In fact, Green has averaged less than one turnover per 100 possessions. He’s the only regular in the Bulls’ rotation that has done so this season.

Green isn’t called upon to initiate or facilitate the offense often, but when the ball does find him he rarely makes mistakes. That’s the type of player that is very valuable whether he’s in the starting unit or coming off the bench.
