Bulls rumors: Who to target in a Coby White trade-Dwight Powell
As mentioned previously, the Bulls don’t have the most depth to boast in the frontcourt unit this season. There is a lot of strength in the starting unit, between the likes of second-year forward Patrick Williams and star center Nikola Vucevic. But there’s not much that the Bulls have coming off the bench beyond Alize and center Tony Bradley.
The Bulls clearly don’t have too much confidence yet in young big men like forward Tyler Cook and rookie center Marko Simonovic. The two-way contracted Cook looks like he will spend most of the season with the G-League affiliate Windy City Bulls. And Simonovic was just assigned to the G-League to start this week.
This is why it would make sense for the Bulls to go after someone like Harrell or the underrated Dallas Mavericks big man Dwight Powell. Donovan and the Bulls wouldn’t have to be as reliant on small-ball lineups this season if they had someone like Powell to rely on coming off the bench.
Powell wouldn’t give the Bulls the same type of punch that someone like Harrell would off the bench. But the Bulls don’t necessarily need to invest that much to get a forward like Harrell. They could get a really solid and reliable two-way big man to place in a key reserve role like Powell.
The contract that Powell has would also be a lot easier for the Bulls to take on than Harrell. The Bulls would definitely have to throw in another sizable contract to get Harrell. Meanwhile, Powell is due around just $11 million over the course of the next two seasons. The Bulls could much more easily take that onto the books.
