Key Chicago Bulls players that can help the team stay undefeated: Lonzo Ball

One of the most exciting new additions to the Bulls roster during the offseason was the former Pelicans point guard and restricted free agent Lonzo Ball. The Bulls invested a lot to get a sign-and-trade deal done with the Pelicans to lock Lonzo into Chicago back in August. And it looks like Donovan and the Bulls now have that elusive point guard of the future in Lonzo.

Lonzo contributed a good bit in the Bulls’ season-opening win over the Pistons earlier this week. But he needs to have a bigger impact on the offensive end of the floor if the Bulls want to make it through the weekend unscathed.

In the season-opening win over the Pistons, Lonzo had just as many assists as he did turnovers. And he shot just 2-of-6 from beyond the arc. While the season opener was by no means a bad performance for Lonzo, his impact should be felt in greater ways in the coming weeks and months.

Lonzo proved in the preseason, as well as in the last two seasons with the Pelicans, that he is a very capable floor spacer and playmaker. It is fair to expect more out of him than shooting 33.3 percent from beyond the arc and posting an even assist-to-turnover ratio.

The really good news here is that, despite the rather pedestrian stat line from the season opener, Lonzo still maintained a great plus/minus. He registered a game-high +17 in the six-point win over the Pistons.

Imagine what this Bulls’ starting unit can do when Lonzo is actually able to connect the dots and make the true two-way impact we all know he can.
