Chicago Bulls starting point guard: Lonzo Ball

The point guard position is in much better shape for Donovan and the Bulls heading into this regular season slate than it was entering the 2020-21 campaign. No disrespect to the duo of Coby and combo guard Tomas Satoransky, but the unit that the Bulls have heading into this regular season is much more potent.

White can still contribute for the Bulls at a high level offensively in a reserve role. And Sato is likely to contribute some valuable minutes to the New Orleans Pelicans this season.

Yet, the Bulls were able to find their point guard of the future during the offseason by getting the sign-and-trade deal done to land Lonzo Ball from the Pelicans. Lonzo should be able to make a two-way impact right away for the Bulls. He’s one of the most important pieces to make this upgraded Bulls starting unit work this season.

Lonzo is going to bring an excellent floor-spacing presence to the table. And he moves the ball out of his hands very fast. The Bulls didn’t have an efficient distributor of the ball in half-court offense and transition like Lonzo in the past few seasons.

During the preseason, Lonzo was excellent for the Bulls in distributing the ball, disrupting by getting his hands in the passing lanes, and spacing the floor. He shot around 40 percent from beyond the arc. Lonzo was especially potent shooting above-the-break, where he hit his looks at a clip around 39 percent.

The Bulls have two established shooters from above-the-break now with Lonzo in the mix.

It will be fun to see what the Bulls look like during the regular season on both ends of the floor with Lonzo leading the way as the starting point guard.
