Who Chicago Bulls should’ve signed instead of Bryce Alford: Aron Baynes
It is still worth mentioning that there are some question marks on the bench in the Bulls frontcourt unit heading into the regular season. There was an idea that Oturu could challenge for a roster spot if he proved he could be a versatile two-way big man that could fill a third unit role in the frontcourt during camp and the preseason.
But that obviously didn’t work out for the Bulls in the end with Oturu.
That is why it could be worth the Bulls considering another veteran option among big men on the free agent market right now in the former Suns and Toronto Raptors center Aron Baynes. A true journeyman since the mid-to-late 2010s, Baynes could be someone that could bring a plethora of postseason experience to the table for the Bulls too. He won a title with the Spurs back in 2014.
And he’s also challenged for championships during his days with the Boston Celtics. As someone who could be a reliable backup at the five behind star center Nikola Vucevic, and a potential mentor for rookie big man Marko Simonovic this season, Baynes makes a lot of sense as a potential signing for the Bulls.
Baynes has to be considered one of the best remaining free agents ahead of the start of the regular season in the next week around the NBA. If you’ve talked a lot with other Bulls fans since around the month of August around which free agents the front office could add to the bench before the start of the regular season, you likely heard Baynes’ name come up.
