Pleasant surprises for the Chicago Bulls through 3 games: Ayo Dosunmu
The most clutch performance that the Bulls got so far during the preseason came courtesy of the former Illinois Fighting Illini junior star point guard and rookie Ayo Dosunmu. In the Oct. 10 win over the Cavs on the road, Dosunmu scored the final two baskets for the Bulls to seal the one-point victory.
Dosunmu took the game into his own hands to help the Bulls get the four points the team needed to get this win over the Cavs. His last two baskets were good for four of his nine points in this game, and it’s a good sign of things potentially to come for the rookie guard.
We’re likely not going to see Dosunmu get this type of usage in clutch time for the Bulls heading into the regular season. But that’s why it’s good for him to get this type of exposure during the preseason, when the coaching staff can see what he can do in clutch time at such a young age and without much NBA experience to speak of.
Dosunmu is off to a pretty good start with the Bulls between his play with the team in the Las Vegas NBA Summer League and in three games during the preseason. In Summer League, he averaged 12.6 points per game, 4.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.2 blocks.
And through three games in the preseason thus far, Dosunmu averaged around seven points per game, one rebound, 0.5 assists, one steal, and one block. And he’s shot 50 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc, and doesn’t have any attempts yet from the free-throw line.
Dosunmu gave the Bulls some solid two-way production through the preseason thus far. That is something that could boost his minutes heading into the regular season.
