Chicago Bulls bench players that could become starters: Alex Caruso

Another likely Bulls reserve player to start the regular season that had a solid preseason debut with this team is the former Los Angeles Lakers defensive standout point guard Alex Caruso.

If the Bulls need to find a guard that can be slotted into the starting unit and be effective immediately, it should be Caruso at first thought. Third-year point guard Coby White should definitely be a consideration, but Caruso is a better defender and more consistent shooter from the outside.

Since the Bulls wouldn’t really need another volume scorer or primary initiator in the starting unit if just one guard switch was needed in the starting unit, Caruso would be the best fit between him and White. The Bulls have the trio of Vucevic, LaVine, and DeRozan in the starting unit. If you even take one of those three players out of the starting unit, there’s still enough to more than get by in terms of capable scorers and initiators.

What the Bulls really need in the starting unit is a guard that can continue to help space the floor, and play solid perimeter defense. LaVine, Vucevic, and DeRozan are all usually net negative defenders. The same could be said for White.

If the way that Caruso showed he can distribute the ball in the preseason opener continues heading into the regular season, the Bulls will have someone that can be another solid offensive piece altogether.
