Underachieving Chicago Bulls players ready to breakout: Coby White
It seems like a really long time ago that the Bulls were seeing what a lot of fans thought was the point guard of the future for this franchise blossoming in front of their eyes with the former North Carolina Tar Heel Coby White. To end the 2019-20 regular season, prior to the COVID-19 induced hiatus, White was the last Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month.
He was on fire prior to the pause. And White also had a decent finish to last season. But White really has yet to put it all together through a complete regular season.
The Bulls seventh overall pick in the first round of the 2019 NBA Draft has yet to really live up to the hype on a consistent basis. At this point, it feels like White is bound to fit the role of a volume scorer and catch-and-shoot threat that can spark the offense when needed.
White can still be a candidate for a sixth man role for Donovan and the Bulls this season. But to establish himself in that sixth man role, White will need to show that he can cut down on the bad fouls on defense and become a more consistent shooting threat from the outside.
As he’s likely to miss at least the start of the regular season for the Bulls, White is going to have a long road back to establish himself in a key role in this rotation. He feels like a good fit in the second unit, but his bad defense and untimely fouls must stop. This could be a make-or-break season for White when it’s all said and done.
