Underachieving Chicago Bulls players ready to breakout: Troy Brown Jr.
The one real wildcard on this list among previously underachieving Bulls players is the former Washington Wizards shooting guard/small forward Troy Brown Jr.
You could argue one of the most intriguing spots on the Bulls bench heading into the regular season is on the wing. The Bulls have some potent young wings to work with this season, but no one really sticks out as an established sixth man/potential eventual starter. At least no one has proved themselves in that regard quite yet.
The Bulls could have some intriguing pieces to slot on the wing in certain situations off the bench next season that fill multiple different roles for Donovan. That includes sharpshooting guard/wing Matt Thomas, Brown, DJJ, small forward Stanley Johnson, etc. Brown is definitely one of the more capable two-way wings in this rotation, though.
If Brown can find his rhythm as a tertiary initiator and wing shooter this season, he could become a regular in the second unit. A huge problem for Brown in his first three seasons in the NBA was his lack of consistency in terms of efficient shooting numbers. He’s never shot better than 79 percent from the free-throw line and/or 35 percent from beyond the arc in any one season.
Let Brown find his rhythm shooting from the corners and drive the lane when the rest of the offense breaks down. He’s quick off-the-dribble, and showed potential in the past as a catch-and-shoot threat from the corners. Brown has a lot of potential in this system with the Bulls, but now is the time for him to prove his worth to the wing rotation.
