Chicago Bulls projected starting 5: Lonzo Ball, Point Guard
There’s no doubt of who the Bulls’ starting point guard should be at the outset of the preseason and the regular season. Unless there’s something that Donovan and his staff want to try in the preseason that they see as advantageous against the Cavs on Oct. 5, it doesn’t make much sense to start anyone else at the one other than Lonzo.
As one of the most notable new additions for the Bulls over the offseason, Lonzo looks to be the one that will effectively fill the role for this franchise as the point guard of the future. The Bulls went all in to try and sign Lonzo this summer.
Karnisovas and the Bulls got a sign-and-trade deal done with the Pelicans which saw combo guard Tomas Satoransky, veteran shooting guard Garrett Temple, and future draft capital shipped off to NOLA for the return of Lonzo. And the Bulls got Lonzo on a contract that is worth around $84 million over the course of four years.
Lonzo should be able to make a tremendous two-way impact for the Bulls. He’s also lethal in transition with his court vision and playmaking ability.
Last season, Lonzo averaged 14.6 points per game, 4.8 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 1.5 steals, and 0.6 blocks, with the Pels. And he shot 41.4 percent from the field, 37.8 percent from beyond the arc, and 78.1 percent from the free-throw line. Lonzo will also be another capable floor spacer for Donovan and the Bulls on the outside.
