Chicago Bulls: 3 non-guaranteed players likely to be cut
Non-guaranteed players likely to be cut by Chicago Bulls: Ethan Thompson
Another one of the guards that the Bulls have on the roster heading into Training Camp and the preseason is the rookie former undrafted free agent signing Ethan Thompson. This former standout Oregon State Beavers combo guard was signed by the Bulls’ following the conclusion of the 2021 NBA Draft, and he played for their Las Vegas NBA Summer League team.
But Thompson didn’t do a lot to show in Summer League that he can make a real impact for the Bulls moving forward. You would expect more polish in Thompson’s game than he showed in Summer League given how much experience he brings to the table out of Oregon State. He was a four-year starter with the Beavs.
The Bulls do have more invested in someone like Thompson than they do Thomas. Executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley signed Thompson down to an EXHIBIT-10 deal during the offseason. But that doesn’t mean that he is guaranteed for the 2021-22 regular season.
What Thompson has to do to show that he deserves to make this roster is show that well-rounded polish that can bring a lot of utility to the Bulls’ third unit. His versatility he showed at Oregon State included a polished rebounding ability, good facilitating and initiating capability on offense, and solid on and off ball defense.
