Free agents the Chicago Bulls could add after Patrick Williams’ injury: Mike Scott

There was already a looming need that Donovan and the Bulls had at the four heading into next season. We didn’t know whether it would be Williams or the former San Antonio Spurs star shooting guard/forward DeMar DeRozan starting at the four for the Bulls. But with Williams likely to miss at least the first few games of the regular season slate, it’s hard to know where this decision lies for Donovan and his staff.

One way that executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley could look now is at veteran power forwards in free agency. Williams is able to space the floor and play solid on-ball defense for the Bulls. That is something that the former Philadelphia 76ers and Atlanta Hawks power forward Mike Scott could do to a certain degree for the Bulls in Williams’ absence at the four.

Scott is a career 36 percent shooter from beyond the arc. And in his three-season long stint with the Sixers in the past few years, Scott shot better than 37 percent from beyond the arc. And while Scott isn’t going to be any sort of rim protector for the Bulls at the four, he is a decent rebounder. Scott posted a decent total rebounding percentage around 10, and a defensive rebounding percentage north of 15 in the last three seasons with the Sixers.

By no means would Scott be a permanent fill at the four for the Bulls in the first or second unit. There are other options that the Bulls have once both White and Williams get back. But in the meantime, Scott could be a nice veteran presence to help this team get through the Williams injury and he could add third unit depth deeper down the bench.
