More bad news arrived for key pieces of the young core for the Chicago Bulls this week. As the Bulls were already set to be missing third-year point guard and former North Carolina Tar Heel Coby White heading into Training Camp and the preseason next week, another core young part of the rotation now looks to be out for at least one month.

A report from Shams Charania of The Athletic/Stadium on Twitter on Sep. 24 notes that second-year forward and former Florida State Seminole Patrick Williams will be out for four-to-six weeks at least with a left ankle sprain. This is unfortunate timing for both Williams and the Bulls too, given that the team is less than one week from the start of Training Camp.

Second-year head coach Billy Donovan and the Bulls will now be down both Williams and White at the outset of Training Camp on Sep. 28. It’s also not good to hear that Williams suffered a “severe” ankle sprain this week. The Bulls will likely have to be patient with Williams to not bring him back too fast.

It will be interesting to see how the recovery timeline of Williams develops in the coming weeks. With the Bulls set to open up the regular season slate on Oct. 20 against the Detroit Pistons on the road, Williams looks likely to miss at least the first few games of the 2021-22 campaign.

At least the Bulls do have some options as to where to turn to following this injury news to Williams. Free agency and mixing up looks in Training Camp and the preseason affords the coaching staff and front office an opportunity to figure this thing out ahead of the start of the regular season.

With that in mind, here’s a look into three free agents that the Bulls could sign following this injury news to Williams.
