There’s no doubt that expectations are going to rise for the Chicago Bulls and head coach Billy Donovan heading into next season. The Bulls already had expectations to improve last season, in the first year under Donovan as head coach, at least compared to the results from a few seasons under former head coach Jim Boylen.
If Donovan and the Bulls can finally get over the postseason hump in 2022, it would end a four-year-long drought that is exacerbated by how bad some of the times were under Boylen. But the Bulls have a reloaded roster that has a projected starting unit that is one of the most exciting of any in the Eastern Conference.
And this is something that is recognized by CBS Sports NBA writer Jasmyn Wimbish in a piece this week detailing rising expectations for the Bulls heading into next season. She mentioned in this piece with CBS Sports essentially why expectations are rising for the Bulls next season.
CBS Sports writer optimistic about the odds for Billy Donovan and the Chicago Bulls next season
Wimbish noted four points in particular as to why the Bulls’ expectations are rising. Definitely the most important part to the point that Wimbish is making is the fact that the Bulls found that elusive point guard of the future in Lonzo Ball.
And two of the key ones in this piece were the fact that star shooting guard Zach LaVine and second-year forward Patrick Williams can make respective leaps next season that will be able to take this team as a whole to new heights.
This piece also touched on the fact that the Bulls will have a very potent offense with the newfound duo of star center Nikola Vucevic and shooting guard/forward DeMar DeRozan. Donovan and the Bulls might role with DeRozan starting at the four next season, with Vucevic at the five.
It is good to hear a more optimistic take on the Bulls heading into next season instead of the counter, which you can often see from media outlets like ESPN.
It is also worth noting that Wimbish mentioned that the Bulls could finish in fourth or fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings next season. That would surely be a huge leap for a rejuvenated Bulls team to snap a lengthy postseason drought that has almost extended a half-decade now.
Donovan and the Bulls are set to open up Training Camp on Sep. 28, in less than two weeks now. And then, the preseason slate tips off on Oct. 5 at home at the United Center against Lauri Markkanen and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
