Chicago Bulls: 4 best options to fill last two-way contract slot
Chicago Bulls’ best options to fill last two-way contract slot: Cassius Stanley
Among the younger players remaining in free agency at this point of the offseason that still have a pretty high ceiling and a lot of untapped potential, it doesn’t get much better than the former Duke Blue Devils standout shooting guard Cassius Stanley. The division foe Indiana Pacers never gave Stanley much of a shot to succeed last season.
And it only took one season of rather inefficient production out of Stanley for the Pacers to let him walk. In less than 100 total minutes played with the Pacers last season, Stanley averaged just 1.5 points per game, 0.8 rebounds, 0.1 assists, 0.1 steals, and 0.2 blocks. And he shot 30.2 percent from the field, 23.1 percent from beyond the arc, and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line.
Stanley also started to show some real signs of life with the Pacers Las Vegas NBA Summer League team. He averaged around 11 points per game, four rebounds, two assists, one steal, and 0.5 blocks, in the five Summer League games that Stanley played in with the Pacers. And he finally found his rhythm shooting from the field (53 percent) and from beyond the arc (42 percent).
It seems like Karnisovas and the Bulls have already added a lot of uber-athletic players in reserve roles that can dunk the life out of the ball. That is well-noted among Bulls fans at this point.
But the other side to that as it pertains to Stanley is the fact that the former Duke guard could learn a lot from other more developed guards such as Lonzo Ball and star Zach LaVine. Being able to round out his offensive game and become more disruptive on defense are skills that Stanley could learn in bits and pieces from the duo of Lonzo and LaVine.
The Bulls do seem like a place where Stanley could find more traction. This could be a low-risk signing with a lot of promise.
