Who the Chicago Bulls should’ve signed instead of Stanley Johnson: Patrick Patterson

A common favorite potential free agent signing of mine for the Bulls to address the looming need at the four this offseason is the former Los Angeles Clippers veteran power forward Patrick Patterson. With the Bulls still needing to fill this hole at the four in a reserve role, there’s not much better out there for this team than Patterson.

The Bulls could use another veteran voice in the locker room heading into next season that can also fill a reserve role. There’s a lot of young on the bench for the Bulls heading into next season. Most of the veteran players on the current roster are those that will be in the starting unit (i.e. DeMar DeRozan, Nikola Vucevic, and Zach LaVine).

It’s hard to believe that the Bulls could still get someone proven like the 32-year-old Patterson potentially on a minimum deal to fill a big need at this point of the offseason. And this is something that the front office should take full advantage of.

I would be a huge fan of the Bulls adding Patterson to fill that final spot on the 15-man roster heading into next season. The first option on the Bulls shortlist to fill the need at the four should be Patterson. And then, the next consideration should be someone like Alize.

Patterson is a pretty good shooter from deep, a reliable on-ball defender, and a good rebounder. He’s a career 44 percent shooter from the field, 37 percent from beyond the arc, and 76 percent from the free-throw line. This is someone that could give the Bulls 15-20 quality minutes off the bench in the frontcourt unit per night, at a minimum.
