We are still waiting to see what happens from the Chicago Bulls‘ front office to address the looming need at the four. The Bulls do have options heading into next season as to who to start at the four. But finding a true backup power forward to place on the bench to replace what Lauri Markkanen did for the team last season is the main task at hand this offseason.
With the Bulls shipping the restricted free agent and to-be fifth-year power forward Markkanen off to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a three-team sign-and-trade deal late last month, the need at the four is clear. And the other option that the Bulls had at the four this offseason, veteran forward Thaddeus Young, was shipped off to the San Antonio Spurs in another sign-and-trade deal.
Chicago Bulls can take a veteran option off the free agent market to help fill out the roster
The looming need at the four is compounded by the fact that the Bulls still have some roster spots to fill out ahead of the start of Training Camp and the preseason. There is not a complete rotation at the moment for the Bulls, and there is still one two-way contract slot open.
One two-way contract slot is filled by second-year point guard and former undrafted free agent Devon Dotson. But the other is still waiting to be filled ahead of next season.
Moreover, the Bulls did lose some key veterans from last season’s team this offseason. Young, combo guard Tomas Satoransky, and veteran shooting guard Garrett Temple are good examples of key experienced players now gone. Maybe that could be one approach for the Bulls to take to fill a roster spot before Training Camp begins on Sep. 28.
With that in mind, here’s a look at three underrated veterans for the Bulls to sign out of free agency this month.
