Chicago Bulls: 4 top free agents left heading into September
Chicago Bulls top remaining free agents in September: JJ Redick
The two most appealing veteran free agents that are still available in the open market at this point of the offseason, by a good margin, are Millsap and the former Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans sharpshooting guard JJ Redick. The 37-year-old former Duke Blue Devils star is not the same player that he once was at least three or five years ago.
But if the Bulls want a proven and reliable option as a premier shooter to play in key minutes off the bench, you won’t find a better free agent target than Redick. He could be signed on a short-term deal that offers all parties a good value. Redick clearly doesn’t have that hot of a market this offseason, so the Bulls could be a spot where he’s given the chance to make a solid postseason run again.
And given how much Donovan values having reliable floor spacers on the outside in his starting unit, and on the bench, adding someone like Redick still makes a lot of sense. The Bulls have a lot of good shooters in the starting unit, but it thins out on the bench.
Coby is a good volume-scoring guard, but he is anything but consistent shooting from downtown. And former Los Angeles Lakers guard Alex Caruso was a good shooter from beyond the arc last season, but he tends to be spotty in this regard year-over-year in his four years in the NBA.
Redick could be a good option to give Donovan a more reliable shooter off the bench. This would also be an overall bench upgrade that would really come in handy for the Bulls come postseason time.
