Remaining free agents that are realistic fits for the Chicago Bulls: James Ennis III

In a very obvious way, it is hard to see why the former Orlando Magic veteran wing James Ennis III is still available in free agency at this point of the offseason. In a day and age where a three-and-D type wing is valued at such an extreme level, it’s hard to believe that no one found a significant enough level of interest to sign Ennis III.

The Magic got one of the more productive and efficient seasons of Ennis’ career last season. He was a lights-out shooter from deep, which upped a trend that he already showed in past seasons. Ennis is a career 36.0 percent shooter from beyond the arc. Last season, he shot north of 43 percent from beyond the arc.

Ennis isn’t a great defensive wing, but he’s also not the worst on that end of the floor. His -0.2 defensive box plus/minus he posted with the Magic last season would put him about in the realm of Wendell Carter Jr. (prior to the trade that ironically landed him in Orlando) or combo guard Tomas Satoransky.

Considering the Bulls do have some defensive depth on the bench, including shooting guard Javonte Green and point guard Alex Caruso, adding someone with a rather unique skill set like Ennis could do a lot of good. Donovan’s offensive scheme operates off of having a good amount of off-ball threats, and Ennis could bring that type of presence to the second or third unit.
