On the day (Aug. 20) where the Chicago Bulls are set to have the regular season schedule announced for the 2021-22 campaign, rumors are starting to come out about how it could open up. The Bulls weren’t one of the opening night games announced by the NBA in the past week that will be nationally televised.
Since the Bulls also aren’t part of the NBA on Christmas Day slate of games this year, we really don’t officially know anything about the regular season schedule as of yet. That will change later in the afternoon of Aug. 20, though.
In the meantime, a report from Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic on Twitter on Aug. 19 could give some insight as to how the Bulls schedule could play out to open up the regular season. Mayberry tweeted that he’s “hearing the Bulls’ home opener will be against Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans”.
He also noted that meeting with the Pelicans for the Bulls home opener this coming regular season would be on a Friday night on Oct. 22.
Chicago Bulls could see the first home action of 2021-22 against the Pelicans
This tweet from Mayberry quoted one from James Edwards III reporting that the Detroit Pistons could have the home opener in the Motor City on Oct. 20 against the Bulls. If that is the case, then Oct. 20 against the Pistons could be the regular season opener for the Bulls to start off the 2021-22 campaign.
That would be an interesting set of games for the Bulls to start off with, against a plethora of young talent. Zion and the Pelicans would come in to face the Bulls at the United Center just two nights after head coach Billy Donovan gets to face rookie sensation Cade Cunningham and the divisional foe Pistons.
The good news here is that we won’t have to wait all that long until the regular season schedule is released for the Bulls. With the Las Vegas NBA Summer League just wrapping up earlier this week, and Training Camp and the preseason set to begin before too long, the excitement is building as to what lies ahead next season.
Donovan and the Bulls finished up last season with a record of 31-41, which placed them just outside of the postseason picture in the Eastern Conference. All of the new acquisitions the Bulls brought in this offseason will look to push this team over the postseason hump to break a four-year drought in 2022.
