Chicago Bulls Summer League players that could make the roster: Jerome Robinson
At one time about two years ago, it would be hard to believe that the Bulls would have the former Virginia Tech Hokies guard and Raleigh, NC, native Jerome Robinson coming off the bench on the Summer League roster. The former lottery pick of the Los Angeles Clippers from the 2018 NBA Draft never found traction in the last three seasons.
Robinson had stints with the Clippers and Washington Wizards in the past three seasons that just didn’t work out the way any of the parties involved wanted.
What the Bulls are likely wanting to tap into with Robinson is the spark he showed with the Wizards down the stretch during the 2019-20 regular season.
In 21 games played down the stretch with the Wizards two seasons ago, Robinson averaged around 10 points per game, three rebounds, two assists, one steal, and 0.5 blocks. And he shot 40 percent from the field, 35 percent from beyond the arc, and 77 percent from the free-throw line.
That type of production from Robinson would give the Bulls legit three-level shooting guard depth that adds an offensive spark for this rotation. But Robinson hasn’t produced all that much for the Bulls in three games with this Summer League team.
In around 18 minutes per game in Summer League thus far, Robinson averaged 2.4 points per game, 2.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.7 blocks. And he shot 27.3 percent from the field, 14.3 percent from beyond the arc, and doesn’t have any attempts from the charity stripe.
If the Bulls did keep Robinson in the fold heading into Training Camp and the preseason, it would likely be due to the potential he’s showed at times since he was a first-round pick of the Clippers three years ago. He hasn’t done too well for the Bulls in three Summer League appearances, but there is still ample time left for him to prove his value.
