Chicago Bulls Summer League players that could make the roster: Tyler Bey
It would be good if the Bulls gave more playing time in the last few games of Summer League to the former Colorado Buffaloes star and second-year shooting guard/wing Tyler Bey. Only averaging a little north of 13 minutes per game in three outings in Summer League, Bey is showing that he could have a bigger role with more success with the Bulls the rest of the way in Vegas.
Bey was projected at one time to be a first-round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. But the Dallas Mavericks wound up getting him with the 36th overall pick in the second round of the 2020 draft.
We could see some spirited performances from Bey in his hometown (he’s a Las Vegas, NV, native) to try and prove that he at least deserves a spot with the Bulls in Training Camp and the preseason. He didn’t get much of a shot with the Mavs in his rookie season, only playing in 18 games during the regular season.
In those 18 games he played in last season, Bey got 71 minutes and tallied up 18 points, 19 rebounds, three assists, no steals, and one block.
Thus far in Summer League for the Bulls, Bey averaged just 3.0 points per game, 4.4 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.3 blocks. And he shot 42.9 percent from the field, missed on two attempts from beyond the arc, and shot 75.0 percent from the free-throw line.
Bey is the type of three-and-D wing that the Bulls could really use to add depth for head coach Billy Donovan at that spot in the rotation heading into next season. We started to see a bit of what Bey could do in the G-League last season.
In 13 games played in the G-League between his time with Long Island Nets and Salt Lake City Stars, Bey averaged 15.1 points per game, 9.2 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.5 blocks. And he shot a solid 49.3 percent from the field, 32.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 77.1 percent from the free-throw line.
