Chicago Bulls: 3 free agents that are former DeRozan teammates
Although most of the action for the Chicago Bulls in this cycle of free agency is now in the rear view mirror, we’re likely to still see at least a few more additions before Training Camp and the preseason arrive. Now in the midst of the Las Vegas NBA Summer League, the Bulls could have one or two more additions to the Training Camp/preseason roster from players that show out there.
There were four notable free agent signings that will be added to the roster heading into next season, and one via the 2021 NBA Draft. The Bulls also brought over the former KK Mega Bemax big man and second round 2020 NBA Draft pick Marko Simonovic to join the roster ahead of next season.
DeMar DeRozan among the key acquisitions for the Chicago Bulls in free agency this summer
The four aforementioned major free agent signings for the Bulls this summer thus far consistent of the former New Orleans Pelicans point guard Lonzo Ball, San Antonio Spurs star shooting guard/forward DeMar DeRozan, Los Angeles Lakers point guard Alex Caruso, and OKC Thunder center Tony Bradley. But DeRozan and Lonzo were definitely the two most notable additions.
Executive vice president of basketball operations and general manager Marc Eversley obviously both played big roles in the sign-and-trades that went down to land DeRozan and Lonzo. The Bulls got Lonzo in a sign-and-trade where AK and Eversley didn’t have to give up that much in return.
Yet, the asking price for DeRozan from the Spurs was pretty large. The Bulls gave up veteran forwards Thaddeus Young and Al-Farouq Aminu, and a trio of draft picks, to get the unrestricted free agent DeRozan from the Spurs.
But maybe there’s a way for the Bulls to add some familiar faces to fill other needs for this bench out of free agency this summer to surround DeRozan. Here’s a look into three former DeRozan teammates from his time with the Spurs and Toronto Raptors that are still available in free agency.
