Remaining free agents the Chicago Bulls could use to bolster the bench: Mike Scott

The aforementioned lofty need that the Bulls will have at the four, in the likely event that Markkanen doesn’t re-sign with the team this summer, is something the front office must address. Adding someone like Biyombo could mean that the Bulls switch Simonovic to play most of his minutes at the four.

But that still could be an uneven fit for Donovan and the Bulls heading into next season if there’s a center rotation featuring Biyombo, Bradley, and Vooch, and the four only sees P-Will and Simonovic on the depth chart. While adding Biyombo makes sense on multiple levels, adding someone like the former Philadelphia 76ers power forward Mike Scott could be a more natural fit.

The veteran 33-year-old Scott has played most of his career with the Hawks (five seasons) and the Sixers (three seasons).

Scott could replace a lot of what Markkanen provided for the Bulls in recent seasons. North of a 36 percent career shooter from beyond the arc, Scott is roughly just as efficient from deep as Markkanen for his career. And Scott’s defensive rebounding percentage for his career (around 17) isn’t that far off of Markkanen’s from the last two seasons (around 19).

The Bulls don’t have much cap room left, and adding a starting-caliber power forward at this point of the free agent cycle isn’t too realistic. Signing a proven veteran like Scott that can come in and immediately give the Bulls 15-to-20 minutes off the bench per game is something that makes a lot more sense.
