Chicago Bulls’ replacements for Ryan Arcidiacono: Malik Monk

There is not a particular need that the Bulls would have to add someone like the impending restricted free agent and Charlotte Hornets guard Malik Monk this summer. But we do know that Karnisovas and the Bulls brought back Valentine last offseason to have another guard/wing in the rotation that could space the floor effectively and be a secondary shot-creator off the bench when needed.

If the Bulls let both Arch and Valentine walk this summer, then there are two guards spots opened up in the rotation, and two less reliable shooters for Donovan to have on his bench. Monk was one of the best shooters from deep last season, and he won’t be guaranteed starter-level money in restricted free agency this summer.

Those are two reasons for hope as to why there is a good level of viability to the Bulls potentially signing Monk this offseason. Monk didn’t start in any of the 42 regular season games he played in with the Hornets. But in the time he did get on the floor, he was effective for the Hornets. He shot better than 40 percent from beyond the arc on nearly nine three-point attempts per 36 minutes.

Monk also averaged a career-best 20.1 points per 36 minutes with the Hornets during the regular season.

What could also bode well for the Bulls if the team signed Monk is the fact that he was a more effective shot-creator and three-point shooter than either Valentine or Arch last season. This looks like it could be a good fit with what the Bulls could need on the bench ahead of next season.
