With the night of the 2021 NBA Draft approaching in just a matter of hours for the Chicago Bulls, the anticipation begins to figure out if the front office will make a big move during the festivities. It wouldn’t be all that surprising if a big move was around the corner for executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley, given the precedent set at the deadline.

But there’s more to look forward to than just the draft night for the Bulls in the coming weeks. The return of the Las Vegas Summer League is set for early-to-mid August for the first time in roughly two years. There was no Summer League last year, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Summer League will be an opportunity for some younger Bulls players, and others trying to prove themselves in their NBA journey, to get the exposure that might not come otherwise. That can help to round out the bench for the Bulls and help to add some names to the preseason/Training Camp roster.

Chicago Bulls’ Summer League roster building with Devon Dotson

Last year, the Bulls’ lone undrafted free agent signing and former Kansas Jayhawks star point guard Devon Dotson didn’t get to play in Summer League. That would be the first opportunity that Dotson had to prove himself for the Bulls. Instead, he was thrown into the fire right away. Literally just weeks after the draft, the Bulls were started up in Training Camp and a shortened preseason.

This year will feel more normal for Dotson. And it looks like he will get to compete in Summer League with the Bulls. Given how well Dotson played for the Bulls in a limited role last season, there should be some excitement surrounding his potential impact in the few games in Summer League this offseason.

Dotson also looks to be one of the more high-profile players participating on the Summer League roster for the Bulls. We also know that forward Patrick Williams and big man Simi Shittu are likely to join the Bulls for the Vegas Summer League.

The run in the Vegas Summer League begins next month for the Bulls. It all starts out on the afternoon of Aug. 9 against the New Orleans Pelicans. There will be at least five games for the Bulls in the Summer League, with four known opponents.

Dotson will be looking to move up his role in this Bulls’ rotation with a solid run in Summer League. Last season, he averaged 2.1 points per game, 0.5 rebounds, 0.6 assists, 0.4 steals, and no blocks, in just under a dozen regular season games played.
