Players in Bulls rumors to avoid this summer: Derrick Rose
What could be a better option for the Bulls to fill the need at the point guard position this summer, but still falls short of maximizing this role in the starting unit, is the New York Knicks veteran and Chicago native Derrick Rose. Now at 32 years of age, the former NBA MVP and three-time All-Star Rose is at a good place in his career.
D-Rose was able to find sustained success with a big market team in this league for the first time since leaving Chicago this year. Playing under former Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau with the Knicks did Rose a lot of good last season. But most of his success in trying to restore his career came in the past few years with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Detroit Pistons.
And while it’s really good to see the rejuvenated career of Rose with some various small and big market teams, a reunion with the Bulls might be coming a little bit too soon. Having the different front office regime and coaching staff in place could help ease the transition if the Bulls were to sign Rose this summer.
But making the move to sign D-Rose could be something that should come maybe another two years or so down the line. His health and minutes questions could be too much for the Bulls to take on heading into next season.
If the Bulls have other big plans for the cap space available in free agency this summer and there’s still some trust in Coby, then signing D-Rose could work out. Otherwise, this should be a move that should be avoided by the Bulls this offseason.
