Free agents worth the gamble for the Chicago Bulls: Paul Millsap
One commonly mentioned potential free agent target on here that looks to be a good fit for Karnisovas and the Bulls is the veteran 36-year-old Denver Nuggets power forward Paul Millsap. The 6-foot-7 and 260-pound Millsap was solid still beyond the prime years of his career with the Nuggets this season.
Millsap could help to fill out the frontcourt unit for head coach Billy Donovan and the Bulls. It would also make sense for the Bulls to move forward with a frontcourt unit consisting of Vooch, Millsap, and center Daniel Theis, as a top-three heading into next season.
What is even more appealing about the Bulls pursuing Millsap as an unrestricted free agent this summer is the fact that they wouldn’t have to lock him down to a long-term deal. And they might be able to get him on an annual salary figure in the seven digits, which would be a good move.
The risk that signing Millsap poses to the Bulls comes with his age and foregoing anyone else that could occupy this spot in the frontcourt rotation. Millsap definitely isn’t young, and the Bulls might want to pursue a big man that has some more longevity in his future.
Especially with a big man that could occupy one of the two or three most important roles in the frontcourt rotation, going after someone like JaMychal Green or Zach Collins (for example), could be more beneficial. But if the price tag stays low this summer on Millsap, then it does look like the benefit would outweigh the risk to sign him.
