Scorching hot draft prospects for the Chicago Bulls to target at 38: Quentin Grimes

One very viable draft target for Karnisovas and the Bulls this year in multiple respects is the former Houston Cougars and Kansas Jayhawks 6-foot-5 and 205-pound combo guard Quentin Grimes. Likely playing in more of a two-guard role at the next level, Grimes is a draft target that soared up draft boards since the end of this past college hoops season.

After transferring to Houston from Kansas ahead of his sophomore campaign, the production of Grimes took off. And he really found his footing with the Cougars in the American Athletic Conference during his junior campaign last season.

Grimes averaged a career-best 17.8 points per game,. 5.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.3 blocks. And he shot 40.6 percent from the field, 40.3 percent from beyond the arc, and 78.8 percent from the free-throw line.

Showing tremendous strides in his game on both ends of the floor, Grimes finally gave some insight into the elite five-star recruit potential he always had. At the next level, Grimes is likely to be a plus-defender that is solid defending one-on-one on the perimeter but can have trouble chasing through ball screens.

On the offensive end, Grimes is an overwhelming presence as he can body his way to the rim and he can create his own looks on the outside. Grimes does often take unforced tough shots. And his tough-shot-making ability isn’t the best. But that is one of the bigger downsides to his game.

Grimes could be an effective second or third unit scorer and good one-on-one perimeter defender. He could be a nice find for the Bulls at 38.
