Absurd trade targets the Chicago Bulls should avoid: Kevin Love
Much like if DeRozan still had a contract paying him north of $30 million annually, it is difficult to imagine the Cleveland Cavaliers veteran big man Kevin Love finding a team that will be very willing to take him in. That would be unless the Cavaliers shell out a lot of future assets along with Love. And that likely isn’t to happen in the midst of their rebuild.
There are two ways that the Cavs are likely to part ways with Love this summer. The first, and more likely of the two, is the Cavs just finally buy Love out of the rest of his current contract. That would be an expensive way for the Cavs to get Love, likely in which they stretch and waive him.
The other that could happen is they find a suitable trade partner to also ship off standout point guard Collin Sexton, who is also willing to take on Love for likely another expensive contract. But that would be difficult to find a situation where the salary matching works out.
Remaining on Love’s current contract is an average annual salary north of $30 million. And his current contract takes him through the end of the 2022-23 season.
I don’t imagine that the Bulls were realistically ever considering trading for Love. But this is something to clearly avoid since it would ruin the Bulls’ cap sheet (or what remains of it) through two more seasons.
It is worth mentioning, though, that if Love comes available for a much cheaper price tag on the buyout market that he could then be an intriguing target if he’s interested in joining the Bulls.
