Absurd trade targets the Chicago Bulls should avoid: DeMar DeRozan

The Bulls don’t have as much cap space as would likely be necessary to even take on the contract of most of the players on this list. That is why a good portion of them made it on here in the first place.

But the first name up on this list is one that was rumored to have some level of connection to the Bulls back at the trade deadline on March 25. San Antonio Spurs star shooting guard/small forward DeMar DeRozan was a name to watch at the deadline. But it was also one that was hard to figure out how the Bulls would afford him.

The four-time All-Star selection and 6-foot-6 and 220-pound 31-year-old DeRozan became a very versatile fit with the Spurs the past few seasons. He even expanded his game to play most of his minutes effectively at the four for the Spurs this season.

DeRozan just isn’t a player that the Bulls should continue to have on their radar this offseason. His next contract likely to be too expensive, and there just isn’t a clear fit on this team for him. LaVine occupies that high usage spot for head coach Billy Donovan at the two, and P-Will is likely to start at the three.

Point guard is a clear need to fill for the Bulls, and DeRozan also shouldn’t be the starter at the one. Considering that DeRozan is set to be a free agent this summer, it won’t be all that surprising if he still winds up getting near-max money. But it’s hard to find where the right fit for him will be.
