The top option it seems at the moment for the Chicago Bulls to sign a point guard this summer is the New Orleans Pelicans 23-year-old and former UCLA Bruin Lonzo Ball. Depending on the ultimate price tag for the former UCLA Bruin and Los Angeles Laker, the Bulls likely will make a big push to sign him out of restricted free agency.
What the price tag ultimately is for Ball likely largely hinges on the number of suitors he has this summer. If it’s just a handful of teams that are interested in topping the offer sheet of Ball in restricted free agency this summer, that could greatly benefit the Bulls in their pursuit of him.
Ball is likely set to see his offer sheet get taken well north of $18 million annually. If the annual salary figure for his next contract stays under $20 million, that will probably be a no-brainer for the Bulls’ front office to pull the trigger on signing his offer sheet.
There needs to be backup options if the Chicago Bulls can’t get Lonzo Ball
Since finding a point guard is the top priority for the Bulls this summer, finding the right price to sign Lonzo is a key point in the offseason timeline. Get him on a mostly team-friendly contract, and this offseason should be considered a big win for the Bulls mostly regardless of what else happens.
Yet, the possibility still exists that the asking price for Ball gets taken outside of the Bulls range. Or the Pelicans could just wind up shipping off Ball in a sign-and-trade deal with another team.
Here’s a look into four of the top options for the Bulls to sign, or at least acquire, a point guard this summer if Lonzo is taken off the board.
